Mary E. Paulus, of Shermans Dale, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in the UPMC-Westshore.  She was born on October 24, 1923 in Marysville and was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Effie (Gamber) Shearer and was the widow of Paul N. Paulus who died on Dec. 9, 1980.

Mary retired from the former Piezo Crystal Co. in Carlisle after many years of service.  During WWII, Mary made tents at the former C. H. Masland & Sons in Carlisle.

She is survived by two sons; Paul E. (Alma) Paulus of Carlisle, Terry L. Paulus of Carlisle, three daughters; Opal Y. Smiley of Shermans Dale, Karen J. (J. Clyde) Smith of Shermans Dale and Denese K. Vassallo of Dillsburg and many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Mary was preceded in death by two sons-in-law; Harold R. Smiley and Anthony J. Vassallo and 14 siblings.

A private graveside service will be held in Young's United Methodist Church Cemetery in Shermans Dale.  Ewing Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
