Obituary

Mary Mullery was born on January 14, 1916 to Harry and Katherine Wilson in Yonkers, NY. She was the 3rd of 5 children (along with Irene, Harry, Tom, and Bob), and attended St. Peters School and Gorton High School. After graduating from high school Mary commuted to New York City each day where she worked as a bookkeeper for a liquor distributor.

On April 11, 1942 Mary married Richard Mullery, originally of Dublin, Ireland, and they settled in Yonkers. Dick then spent WWII on the aircraft carriers Manila Bay and Belleau Wood serving in the South Pacific. During and after WWII, the two of them spent time building a life and family together, with Mary, Richard, Robert and Kevin as new additions. While busy having kids, Mary and Dick also started up their own business - Mardick Carpets - which they formed and operated through the early 1960's. They eventually closed the business and Dick began working as an executive for Karastan Rugs. Travel became a significant part of his life and Mary was able to occasionally join him on trips - particularly if that took them near the grandkids!
Mary and Dick raised their kids through the following years with family trips from Canada to Florida and points in between. Included in these was an anniversary trip to England and Ireland in April of 1971, with Buckingham Palace, Dublin, and the Blarney Stone as high points. Mary was also an active member of St. Peter's Parish and a volunteer secretary at St. Peter's School.

In 1979 Dick passed away and Mary set off on new adventures on her own - this time in the Pocono Mountains. She picked up her things and relocated kit and caboodle to the mountains. She joined the Foresters as its treasurer and through various fund raisers generated over $50,000 in donations, which included a new ambulance for the Lackawaxen Fire and Rescue Company.

Mary's greatest pleasure was her grandkids and great-grandkids. Starting with Kathy and Kerry and then Alicia, Mike and Dave, and eventually followed by great-grandkids Chase, Caiden, Cargan, Copelyn and Caitlyn, Mary took great pleasure in simply enjoying that next generation. In January of 2016 Mary reached her milestone 100th birthday, which was celebrated with many family and friends in attendance and awards from the White House and the state of Pennsylvania - a truly remarkable moment for someone who lived through WWI, the rise of the automobile and start of commercial flight, the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, the Lunar Landing, the age of computers.an incredibly full and vibrant life.

Mary lived most recently at Cumberland Crossing Retirement Village in Carlisle, PA where the staff always referred to her as my smiling Mary' - continuing her enjoyment of life through her final years. Mary peacefully passed in the company of family on January 1, 2017.

Mary is survived by children Mary, Richard, Robert, and Kevin; brother Bob; daughters-in-law Judy, Flo and Lynn; grandkids Kathy, Kerry, Alicia, Mike and Dave; great-grandkids Chase, Caiden, Cargan, Copelyn and Caitlyn, along with many nephews and nieces. She handled whatever life gave her with stamina and without complaint. Her kindness, compassion and love will be missed by all.

Flynn Memorial Home in Yonkers, New York is in charge of the funeral service and burial. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home handled the local arrangements.
