Mary L. Kleiser Fitzgerald, also lovingly called Mary Lou or Lou, 91, of Carlisle, died on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. She was born on Dec. 9, 1927, in Newville and was a daughter of the late Ervin and Velva (Swartz) Smith. Mary was the widow of Robert U. Fitzgerald who died Dec. 20, 2001, and Theodore E. Kleiser, Jr. who died Nov. 22, 1981.
Mary graduated from Carlisle High School. Mary's last job was the Resident Manager at Henlopen Condominiums in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Mary and her first husband Ted were caretakers at what was formerly known as Camp Shand. After retirement from the Henlopen, Mary moved back to Carlisle to be close to family. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and also attended Barnitz United Methodist Church. Mary was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Carlisle.
She is survived by one son, Theodore E. Kleiser, III (and wife Kathy) of Huber Heights, OH, one daughter, Brenda Kleiser Brehm (and husband Steve) of Carlisle, one sister, Edna (and her husband, Mac) McKillip and sister-in-law, Katie Smith. She is survived by eight grandchildren (Kimberly, Christina, Jonathan, Amy, Sarah, Lindsey, Anthony and Cory, as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers; Ray, John, Robert, Richard and Jack Smith and four sisters; Fredith Wholey, Vera Minnich, Rachel Reed and Elsie Finkey.
A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 647 Forge Rd., Carlisle, PA 17015 with Rev. Bruce Fensterbush officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Barnitz United Methodist Church.
