She was a 1944 graduate of Carlisle High School. Marty worked for The Carlisle Shoe Co. in the payroll department. Most interestingly, she was the model for the shoes made in Carlisle and had them photographed while she was wearing them and given the shoes as a gift. She was also a former employee with the Carlisle Hospital as well as the Federal Equipment Co. She retired from the South Middleton School District where she worked in the payroll and bookkeeping departments from 1964 to 1988.The most important things in Marty's life were her family, friends, children, dogs, cooking and nature. Marty was a culinary genius before it was fashionable and always delighted her family and friends with delicious meals. Marty raised, trained and showed Irish Setters for many years, and dearly loved her Golden Retriever "Cowboy". As an avid bridge player, she was part of a Carlisle Bridge Club for 60 years with her closest lady friends and her two sisters-in-law. For Marty, besides family, her earthly paradise' was camping at Assateague Island in MD on the State camping grounds each summer since the 50's. She always made reservations in January in order to insure that she had four weeks to share for our yearly visits.
She is survived by one son, Millard W. "Bill" (wife, Virginia R. "Ginny" Landis) of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren, Malieka Te' Landis of Reno, NV, Joshua Q. W. Landis of WA, and Christopher Q. W. (wife, Jennifer) Landis of Chicago, IL; two great-grandchildren, Finn Martin Landis and Sadie Carr Landis; two brothers-in-law, Dick Landis and Dr. Thomas Landis; one sister-in-law, Donna Landis; and cousins, nieces and nephews from Canada and Carlisle. She was preceded in death by one son, James "Jim" Landis, who passed away March 22, 2010.
A graveside service will be heldFriday, September 11, 2015, at 1:00 p.m.at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Township, PA. The Rev. Arlene Dunn will officiate. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorial donations in Marty's name may be made to Carlisle Cares or to Project Share, Carlisle, PA.
