Obituary

Marlin Sharp, 93, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Cumberland Crossings, Carlisle.  He was born on March 19, 1931, on the family farm in southern Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.  He was the son of Richard and Velma (Coulson) Sharp.

In 1966 Marlin retired with over 17 years of service with Esso, Plainfield.  Then he was owner/operator of Sharp's Esso Service Center on N. Hanover Street in Carlisle for 6 years.  He retired from Forklift Inc, Camp Hill, PA, in 1993 after 22 years of service as heavy equipment mechanic, final inspector, and shop supervisor.  In 1995 Marlin went to work for Pine Ridge Estates, Mt. Holly Springs, as maintenance supervisor and retired after 20 years of service in 2016.

In his spare time, he and his wife, Louise, restored several old homes in the Carlisle area.  Marlin was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army Corp of Engineers as mechanic and Motor Pool Sgt.  Marlin was a member of 1st United Methodist Church which later became Carlisle United Methodist Church.  While at 1st UMC he served as a member on the Board of Trustees and several committees.

Marlin and his wife were married nearly 70 years. Early in their marriage they enjoyed traveling--seeing 48 states, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba in their travels.  He enjoyed his family, woodworking, and restoring old cars.

He is survived by his son, Steven E. Sharp of Lancaster, three grandchildren:  Whitney Sharp, Isaac Sharp, and Rebekah Johnston, two brothers Jack Sharp and Larry (Donna) Sharp, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Sharp, his son, David M. Sharp, sister, Erma Group and brother, Richard Sharp, Jr.

Viewing begins at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 11, with the service at 1 pm at Carlisle United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Rev. Jake Waybright will officiate the service.  A reception follows back at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the CUMC New Building Fund, 333 S.
