Obituary

Marlene L. Myers, 73, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. She was born on Friday, February 17, 1939, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Paul S. and Ida M. (Minnich) Chestnut and was the widow of Merle H. Myers, who died May 5, 2005.

Marlene earned her G.E.D. from Big Spring High School. She and her late husband owned and operated the former Myers Garage in Plainfield for 38 years, where Marlene was the bookkeeper. She also had worked for the Big Spring School District, JoAnn Fabrics, J.C. Penney, Reeves-Hoffman Co. and the Days Inn Hotel. She was a member of Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, Carlisle and the LeTort Quilt Club. She was a former Girl Scout leader and a former member of the West Pennsboro Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by four daughters; Sharon L. Myers of Carlisle, Patti A. Tyler and her husband, Ron of Carlisle, Diane K. Souder and her husband, Merle of Newville and Bonnie E. Myers of Newville, one son, Robert M. Myers, Sr., of Butler, one sister, Winifred P. Line and her husband, William of Carlisle, one brother, Melvin P. Chestnut and his wife, Dottie of Newville, eight grandchildren; Sarah Enck and her husband, Chad, Amanda Brinton, Kirsten Lawson and her husband, Dominic, Jeremy Brinton, Stacy Souder, Samuel Souder and his wife, Janali, Natasha Myers and Robert Myers, Jr., 14 great-grandchildren, her companion, John Paulus of Carlisle and many nieces and nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by one foster son, Leonard Fahnestock.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, 2135 Ritner Highway, Carlisle, with Pastor Scott Hocker officiating. Entombment will be in the Westminster Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace, Carlisle. A viewing will be on Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of the services. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3544 N.
