Marian Ellen McClintock, 89, of Carlisle, peacefully passed away with family by her side on Sunday, January 31, 2010, in the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born on Saturday, January 8, 1921, in Harrisburg, and was a daughter of the late Dewey Potteiger and Viola L. (Carroll) Potteiger Hill.
Marian was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carlisle for over 50 years, and where she attended the Mabel Wireman Bible Classes. She retired in 1972 after 18 years of service with J. C. Penney, Co. in Carlisle. She was a member of the Carlisle Golden Age Club, A.A.R.P. and the North Middleton Senior Citizens. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Central PA Jamboree. She also enjoyed painting and had taken several art classes. Marian was loved by all who knew her and was the last of four siblings.
She is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Earl G. McClintock, whose expression of love was witnessed daily in the nursing home. They were married on June 21, 1941. Also surviving is one son, Ronald L. (and his wife, Saundra) McClintock of Carlisle, two grandsons; Lee McClintock of Carlisle and Petty Officer Second Class, David McClintock, US Navy of Norfolk, VA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Viola Sanderson and Winnie Potteiger and one brother, George Potteiger, who was killed during WWII.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 64 E. North St., Carlisle, with Rev. John L. Shellenberger, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the services at the church. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Carlisle.
