Obituary

Marian L. Groninger, 82, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at her home. She was born on Wednesday, May 28, 1930, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Ruth A. (White) Barnhart, who owned a popular corner grocery store in the 1930's and 40's in downtown Carlisle. She was the widow of Irvin Lee Groninger, who died April 25, 1984.

She was a 1948 graduate of Carlisle High School and graduated from the former Carlisle Commercial College. Marian worked at the Carlisle Barracks early in her career and also was a typist for Dickinson School of Law for many years. She loved reading and spent many years volunteering at the Bosler Library. She also enjoyed swimming and cross-stitching. Marian was a longtime member of Allison United Methodist Church, Carlisle and was involved with many activities within the church.

She is survived by two daughters; Lynne G. Beiswanger (and husband, John) of Stafford, VA and Joan Groninger of Carlisle and four grandchildren; Corey, Cody, Tyler and Katie Beiswanger. Marian was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Cridland and one grandson, Mark Beiswanger.

A celebration of Marian's life will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill. A visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
