Margaret M. Gallagher, 80, of Carlisle, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at UPMC Carlisle.  She was born on January 20, 1944, in Flushing, NY and was a daughter of the late John Wallace and Sarah (Phelan) Wallace.

She graduated from St. Helena High School in the Bronx, NY.  Margaret retired two times, her first retirement came in 1997 from Highmark Insurance where she was a claims adjuster, and the second time was with The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties where she was a social activity worker.  Margaret was a long-time member of the Carlisle Lions Club, and the Western Cumberland County Lions Club.  Margaret had also volunteered for the The Arc prior to her employment for 20 years.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years Hugh J. Gallagher, two daughters, Kathleen Sexton of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Therese Hilliard of Mechanicsburg, one sister Rosemary Evans of Newburg, NY, five grandchildren, Thomas Gallagher, Ryan Sexton, Jacob Hilliard, Megan Mayer, and Sarah Hilliard, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one daughter Margaret Gallagher, one son Hugh Gallagher Jr. and one brother Kevin Wallace.

A visitation will held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S.
