LTC (Ret.) Charles S. Moody, Jr., U. S. Army, age 91, of Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, AL. He was born January 22, 1923 in Meridian, MS to the late Charles S. and Nellie J. (Lamon) Moody, Sr.
LTC Moody retired in 1971 with more than 28 years of honorable service with the U.S. Army. He was a WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. LTC Moody was awarded many medals and honors for his service, including the Bronze Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Army, Charles served as a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employee from 1971 to 1983 and with Central Fidelity Banks (Richmond, VA) from 1983 to 1988. He was a 1941 graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile, AL and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University as well as a Master's degree from Stanford University, both in Electrical Engineering. He was a volunteer with the Military History Institute, a member of the Radio Club of America (RCA) and attended services at the United States Army War College Memorial Chapel, Carlisle Barracks.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Joyce (Higgins) Moody; two sons, Charles S. (Rosemarie) Moody III of Gastonia, NC and Thomas G. (Kathleen) Moody of Dillsburg; two daughters, Aura Kristen Moody (Irv) Leonard of Pasadena, MD and Jennifer Joy Moody of Opelika, AL; a sister, Helen Moody Keating of Columbus, GA; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014, in the USAWC Memorial Chapel at Carlisle Barracks, with U.S. Army Chaplain (Ret.) David Reese officiating. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Army Heritage Museum, 950 Soldiers Dr., Carlisle, PA 17013.
