Lt Col (Ret) Lawrence Mallison, USAF, 79, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born April 5, 1934, in Binghamton, NY, and was a son of the late Delmont and Helen (Huffman) Mallison and was married to the late Rosalie R. (Lewis) Mallison, who died July 26, 2009.
Larry was a 1952 graduate of Pine Hill High School in Cheektowaga, NY and also attended University of Buffalo College, majoring in Electrical Power in 1953, Alfred State Tech, Alfred, NY with a Associates degree in Radio Communications in 1955, University of Omaha, Omaha, Nebraska with a Bachelors in General Education and Major in Engineering 1965. He served in the US Air Force, DOD for more than 28 years and retired in 1983 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and earned numerous medals and honors including; the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. After his retirement from the Air Force, Larry and his late wife owned and operated a travel agency. They loved to arrange trips that would be both enjoyable and educational and had visited nearly every part of the world. Larry was a member of the Military Officers Assoc. of America (MOAA), Past President of The Retired Officer's Association (TROA), helped in the development of the Military Heritage Center, was on the Advisory Council for the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and was a past President of the Carlisle Exchange Club. Larry was a man of many accomplishments, having traveled throughout the world he loved sharing his experiences. Larry was able to fulfill his dream in 2010 by having stayed the night in every state in the United States.
He is survived by one daughter, Stacy J. (and husband, LaVan) Zorn of Mechanicsburg, one son, David Mallison of Lakeville, CT, one brother, Richard (and wife, Judy) Mallison of Getzville, NY, one sister, Nancy (and husband, John) Howard of Tucson, AZ, one grandson, Jeremy Mallison and several nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Tim Wheeler officiating. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service. There will be no viewing. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Richard Ruff officiating. Memorials may be made payable to Stacy Zorn, 101 Willow Mill Park Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, to be equally divided between the organizations Larry believed in, MOAA, Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and the Carlisle Exchange Club.
