Lonnie S. Barnes, son of Phyllis Profater Barnes and Howard S. Barnes Sr. (both deceased), was born on February 10, 1949 in Carlisle, and was welcomed home eternally on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
He is survived by two brothers; Adrian D. Barnes of Washington D.C. and Calvin E. Barnes of Carlisle, two sisters; Victoria E. Barnes of Washington D. C. and Jacqueline E. Barnes of Laurel, MD, one aunt, Loretta DeVeaux Banks Profater and one uncle, Carl V. Profater, Jr., both of Washington DC and many nieces and nephews. Lonnie was predeceased by brothers; Dwight B. Barnes, Darryl T. Barnes and Howard S. Barnes, Jr.
Lonnie graduated from Carlisle High School and received a Master of Human Services Degree from Lincoln University. Lonnie was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Lonnie retired from the PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs after 20 plus years of dedicated service. He taught, counseled, mentored, sponsored and inspired many in the prevention, treatment and recovery of addiction. He was considered and is remembered as "The Legend" and will be missed tremendously.
A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Duane Coleman officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial gifts may be made to the RASE Project, 100 N. Cameron St, Ste. 401E, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
