Obituary

Lincoln A. Warrell, 93, of Carlisle, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2024. He was born on April 17, 1931, in Newark, Ohio and was a son of the late Jonas Warrell and Lillian (Zaiser) Warrell.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years Marilyn (Eschmann) Warrell, five daughters, Linda (Glenn) Garayalde of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Annette Warrell Jones of New Cumberland, Marjorie (Sean) Dowd of Mt. Juliet, TN, Theresa Warrell of Hereford, AZ and Mary (Kevin) Silva of Carlisle, two sons, Charlie Warrell of Sandy, UT and Richard (Elena Macris) Warrell of Mechanicsburg, 17 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother Carrol Warrell and survived by sister-in-law, Mary Ann Warrell and many nieces and nephews.

He was a 1949 graduate of Carlisle High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University in 1953. Linc worked for ALCOA, as a sales engineer before joining Pennsylvania Dutch Candies in Mount Holly Springs, PA, a company he acquired with his brother and father in 1965. Linc led the company as President and CEO, building and expanding the business through numerous acquisitions, including Katharine Beecher Candies and Melster Candies. In 2000, Linc semi-retired, and the company changed its name to The Warrell Corporation. During his career, Linc served on the board of trustees for the National Confectioner's Association, was a member of NASFT board of directors, and was active in the Retail Confectioners Association. He was a visionary behind the creation of the All Candy Expo, currently the Sweet and Snacks Expo held annually in Chicago. Linc was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2001 and received the industry's most prestigious Kettle Award in 2004.

Linc loved his church, St. Patrick's in Carlisle, where he shared his time and talents on numerous committees and projects throughout his life. He was a man of faith and 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. Linc also loved Carlisle and was an active community leader. In addition to being a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Carlisle, he served as a director of the Cumberland County Tourist Council, the United Way of Carlisle, the Carlisle YMCA, the Carlisle YWCA, and the Cumberland County Historical Society. He humbly received the Molly Pitcher Award, the Outstanding Engineering Alumnus Award from Penn State University and the 2013 Business of the Year Award from the Central PA Business Journal. He was a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. In his youth he was active in scouting and was the first Eagle Scout in St. Patrick Troop #168 in 1946. He was selected and represented the United States contingent at the 1947 World Jamboree in France, an honor and experience he talked about throughout his life.

In his free time, he cherished his time spent with Marilyn, his many friends and bridge buddies. He enjoyed travelling, gardening, volunteering, reading the Wall Street Journal and other newspapers, and hosting and attending social events. He also treasured daily family dinners and annual summer reunions with his children and grandchildren. He was proud of them and their many accomplishments and endeavors. Linc's flower gardens were his love, his happy place.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 3-4 pm at the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 South Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA. A rosary service will follow.

A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA. It will also be livestreamed, https://www.saintpatrickchurch.org/church  Following the mass, the burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.
