William Tanger
April 2, 1936 – February 26, 2025
Levi William "Bill" Tanger, 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at UPMC Carlisle. He was born on April 2, 1936, in Boiling Springs and was a son of the late Lawrence Tanger and Esther (Thorton) Tanger and the widow of Carole Kay (Brandt) Tanger who passed away on December 29, 2021.
Bill graduated from Boiling Springs High School and served in the US Army from 1958 to 1961. He worked at the family automotive repair shop along Forge Road, Carlisle and eventually became the owner of Tanger's Garage. He retired after many years of service. Bill was well known on the local racing circuit and he and his late wife were inducted into the York County Racing Club Hall of Fame in 2005.
He is survived by one daughter Sherrie K. Worley of Carlisle, one granddaughter Danielle Swope, one great-granddaughter Alyia, three sisters, Vonnie (Harry) McGuire and Bonnie Tanger both of Mechanicsburg and Kay (Tom) Enneking of Saint Petersburg, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter Sheila R. Morda who passed away on Nov. 26, 2021, and one brother Lawrence "Ed" Tanger.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1915 Ritner Highway, Carlisle with Rev. Richard Warner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Heart Association. www.EwingBrothers.com.
