Obituary

Lester D. Rhoads, 84, of Carlisle, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, in his home. He was born on Wednesday, September 9, 1925, in Dickinson Twp., and was a son of the late Roy and Bessie (McCoy) Rhoads

Les retired from the former Wentzel Vending & Food Service, Inc., Carlisle after 37 years of service and where he was a service manager. Shortly after retiring, Les began working for the Philip Bongiorno Conference Center also in Carlisle. He attended the Green Spring Brethren In Christ Church, Newville. Les enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by six brothers; Creeden, Mervin, Paul, Earl, Floyd and Clark Rhoads and three sisters; Marie Keiter, Ella Wagonner and Mary Thrush.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gertrude L. "Trudy" (Franciscus) Rhoads, two sons; Randall E. (and his wife, Cheryl) Rhoads of Mechanicsburg and David F. (and his wife, Jenny) Rhoads of Newville, four grandchildren; Crystal Hoffman, Jonathan Rhoads, Tanner Rhoads and Ethan Rhoads, three great-grandchildren; Taylor Hoffman, Joshua Hoffman and Judah Rhoads and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Terry Burton and Rev. John Castellani officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of the services for a viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Green Spring Brethren In Christ Church, 720 Green Spring Rd., Newville, PA 17241.
