Lester V. Mell, 95, of Newville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015. He was born on December 1, 1919 in Newville, a son of the late Harry C. and Dora (Shannon) Mell.

Lester retired from Bruce Mell Home Builders in 1985. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His magnificent backyard garden was his pride and joy for decades. His favorite pastimes were pitching horseshoes, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Emma I. (Longacre) Mell, three sons; Gregory (wife Lynndel) Mell and Steven E. Mell (Jackie Grove), both of Carlisle and Daniel K. Mell (Kim Lehman) of Newville, three daughters; Sharon L. (husband Gary) Rhoads of Carlisle, Deborah A. (husband Stephen) Henry and Jody L. Mell (Randy Singleton), both of Shippensburg, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Lester was predeceased by brothers; Bruce, Ronny, Paul and Clair Mell and sisters; Verna Fraker, Dorothy Naugle and Gladys Mell.

A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle. Debra Nelson will lead the services. Interment will be in Centerville Memorial Park in Penn Twp, Newville.
