Lester E. Day, 92, of Plainfield, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle.  He was born on October 14, 1933, in Mount Holly Springs and was a son of the late Oliver Day and Myrtle (Wiley) Gensler.

Lester was married to Donna M. Shughart Day and this past August 28th they celebrated 70 years of marriage.  He is also survived by one daughter Barbara A. and husband Brad Hoover, one daughter-in-law Kimberly Day and two grandchildren, Matthew Day and Morgan Manning. He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward E. Day and Dennis A. Day.

Lester graduated from Carlisle High School in 1952.  He worked in construction building homes with Bruce Mell Construction.  Lester was a proficient carpenter and electrician.  After working many years in construction, Lester became the maintenance director at the Carlisle Y.M.C.A. and retired in 1996 with more than 10 years of service.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Plainfield and served eight years in the Army National Guard, Tank Co. First Battalion 104th Armored Cavalry.  Lester was a life-long member of West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department, Plainfield and a life-long member of the Cumberland County Fire Police Association and service as President in 1985.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in the West Pennsboro Fire Department, 20 Park Rd, Plainfield, PA 17081.  Pastor Julie Jackson will officiate.  The visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of the service.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Pennsboro Fire Co. or to St. Matthew Lutheran Church,  2070 Newville Rd, Plainfield, PA 17081.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
