Obituary

Leslie Clinton Hurley, age 93, of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2024, at home.  Leslie was born on March 29, 1931, in his family's home in Plainfield, PA and was the son of the late William and Thora (Jacobson) Hurley. Leslie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pearl (Thomas) Hurley.

Leslie left Carlisle High School and joined the US Navy to serve during the Korean conflict from 1948-1952 when he was honorably discharged.  While in the Navy he studied electronics and became an Electronics Technician, First Class.   When he returned home to Carlisle, he took a job at Piezo Crystal Company where he met Pearl.   Les and Pearl (Jo) were married July 18, 1953.  Les worked in various places as an electrician and later built several private homes.   He studied electrical engineering and earned his Professional Engineering License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.   He later earned his GED and then attended the Pennsylvania State University where he received a BA degree in Business Administration.

Leslie was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle for 62 years.  He served as an usher and volunteered in the church's Boys Brigade program.  Leslie was a one-time member of the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in which he served as a job superintendent for a house building project.  After his retirement Leslie also served 6 years as a North Middleton Township supervisor.

Leslie is survived by two daughters and one son, Sonia Hurley of Chambersburg, Mandy Hurley Jones (John) of Chambersburg, and Keith Hurley of Torrence, CA.   He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Deborah (Anthony) Ogburn, Benjamin (Sarah) Jones, Andrew (Melissa) Jones, William (Ashley) Hurley and Sara Hurley and 6 great grandchildren, Corrin, Nathan, Alyssa, Gibson, Emma, and Natalie, and many nieces and nephews.   Leslie wishes to be remembered by these as a follower of Jesus Christ, his Savior.  Leslie was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters and 4 brothers, Catherine, Esther, Paul, John, Russel, and Dick.

A funeral service will be held on June 22, 2024, 4:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle, PA with Thomas Hilterman officiating.   Friends may call one hour prior to the service.  A dinner reception for all in attendance will follow in the church fellowship hall.  There will be no graveside service.  Private interment will be at The National Cemetery at Fort Indiantown Gap.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian School of Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle, PA.  Visit www.EwingBrothers.com to send condolences.  Livestream will be available by visiting GraceBaptistCarlisle.org.
