Obituary

Lawrence O. Kail, 86, of Enola, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at home.  He was born on October 13, 1936, in Newville and was a son of the late Warren S. Kail and Nellie (Swartz) Kail and was married to the late Hazel (Rankin) Kail who passed away on July 5, 2009.

Lawrence was a graduate of Newville High School with the class of 1955. He then served more than 20 years in the U. S. Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran and retired in 1975 as a Chief Petty Officer.  Larry then went on and worked many years with the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot and retired in 1998 where he was a mechanic.  He was a member of Trinity Global Methodist Church in New Kingstown.  He was a life member and Past Commander with the former VFW Post in Newville and was a member of the Newville American Legion Post.  Larry was also a member of the Carlisle Masonic Lodge.  He worked several years with Lawrence Chevrolet and enjoyed woodworking

He is survived by one step-daughter Debra (husband Harold) Marpoe of Carlisle, one daughter Vickie Wagaman of Orrtanna, one brother Donald Kail Sr. of Carlisle, one sister Doris Bigler of Carlisle, four grandchildren, Brian Marpoe of Bloomsburg, Jason Marpoe of Carlisle, Jeremiah Whistler of Alvin, TX, and Dezerea Whistler of Carlisle, three step-grandchildren, Cindy Landis, Jarel Kleinhaus and Josh Kopp, all from Lancaster, four great-grandchildren, Harper and Grayson Marpoe of Bloomsburg, Mackenzie and Miah Whistler of Alvin, TX. and several nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are his companion Bert Hawbaker of Enola and his caregivers and with whom he lived Trudy and Eric Eperjesi.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Warren J. Kail, one stepson James Kleinhaus and one son-in-law Walter Wagaman.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Edwin Green as the officiant. Burial with Military Honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
