Obituary

Larry A. Engberg, 64, of Newville, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010, with his wife and son, Andy by his side in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. He was born on June 3, 1946, in Oakland, CA and was a son of the late Floyd and Elsie (Lindstrom) Engberg.

Larry graduated in 1964 from Scobey High School, Scobey, MT. In 1968, he graduated from Montana University, Bozeman, MT with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. In 1972, he received his Masters Degree in Psychology and in 1973 was awarded his PhD, both from the University of Colorado. Larry retired from Dickinson College after 30 years of service as a professor of psychology, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. His greatest joy in teaching was how he shaped his students minds and he was so proud when they went into related fields. He was a member of the Elks B. P. O. Carlisle Lodge 578, and he enjoyed fishing and doing woodworking in his workshop at home.

Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 11 years, Diane E. (Hardy) Engberg, two sons; Eric (and his wife, Rikki) Engberg of Durham, NC and Andrew (and his wife, Amy) Engberg of Harrisburg, two step-sons; Shane (and his wife, Abby) Walsh of Tyler Hill, PA and Jeremy Walsh of Carlisle, his brother, Aubrey Engberg of Medicine Lake, MT, his sister, Betty Finch of Gillette, WY and his first grandson, Strummer. He also left behind his sweet puppy, Tommie. Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis of Cut Bank, MT.

A celebration of life service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, which is also Larry and Diane's 11th wedding anniversary, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on December 21 from 6:00 p.m. until time of the services. The family would like to send special thanks to the Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units at Holy Spirit Hospital and to the nurses and doctors who cared for Larry. You folks are very special angels, especially Angela, Kaycee, Alisha and Josh. God bless you all. Also, thank you to Select Speciality Hospital. Please take the time today to hold someone special in your life and let them know how much you love and care for them
