Obituary

Dr. Kent R. Rentschler, DMD, 77, of Carlisle, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at UPMC-Pinnacle Carlisle.  He was born on February 19, 1942 in Baltimore, MD and was the son of the late Robert D. and Ruth (Brocius) Rentschler.

Kent grew up in Pleasant Hills, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and was a 1960 graduate of the Mercersburg Academy, earned his Bachelor's degree in 1964 and his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry in 1967 from the University of Pittsburgh.  He served in the US Army Dental Corp during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970.  In 1970, Kent established his dental practice in Carlisle and was active until 2009.  His memberships included the Mechanicsburg Club, Carlisle Elks, Carlisle White Circle Club, the Pleasant Hills Guthrie Masonic Lodge 509, Scottish Rite-Valley of Pittsburgh, the Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh and the National Sojourners.

He is survived by four sons; Howard R. Rentschler of Jacksonville, FL, Andrew J. (wife, Kim) Rentschler of Pittsburgh, Brian S. Rentschler of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Stephen J. (wife, Lauren) Rentschler of Prairie Village, KS, one sister, Cheryl (husband, Dale) Harry of Pittsburgh and seven grandchildren.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.  Burial with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Ste 800, Miami, FL 33131.  www.Since1853.com
