Kenneth D. Rhoads, 87, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at The Gardens at Gettysburg. He was born on February 16, 1937, in Carlisle and was a son of the late Creden Rhoads and Eva (Forney) Rhoads and was the widow of Sondra Ann (Smith) Rhoads, who passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Ken graduated from Carlisle High School in 1955 and served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1959. Ken and his wife owned and operated the "Sondra and Kenneth Salon" on Pomfret Street in Carlisle for 60 years. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Carlisle where he ushered and was a former Sunday school teacher.
Ken enjoyed reading, conversation and having parties and celebrations. Ken had a great sense of humor, always joking with coworkers, clients, and family. He loved hosting holiday events and picnics. His tradition of hiding a key and giving rhyming clues will be a favorite memory for the family. When you think of Ken, you can just envision his contagious laugh. He loved life and made those around him smile.
He is survived by two daughters, Kendra (husband Jeff) Carson of Carlisle and Keirsten Kassel of Carlisle, two grandchildren, Madeline McCoy and Caroline Carson, one great-granddaughter Josephine McCoy and many nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Marlin Rhoads.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. John's Episcopal Church, 1A North Hanover St, Carlisle with Rev. Donald Turner officiating. A visitation will be on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service in the Church Parish Hall. Following the service, a time of fellowship will be held at the Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church. www.EwingBrothers.com.
