Judith Marie Shelar, 87, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, September 21, 2026, at UPMC Carlisle. Judy was born on April 14, 1939, in Prospect, PA and was the daughter of the late Charles Toth and Beatrice M. (Grabb) Toth. She was the widow of Thomas H. Shelar, who passed away on November 5, 2019.

Judy graduated from Slippery Rock High in 1957. After High School graduation Judy married Tom on June 8, 1957. They spent their first years together in Cuba, with the Navy. After returning to the states, they welcomed their 2 children, Tom and Lori.

After 25 years of service, Judy retired from HR Block. She and Tom spent their retirement years on the Delaware Bay, where they spent much time on their boat, the “Hey Jude”. Judy enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Wayne (wife, Georgia) Shelar, one daughter, Lori Lynn Smith, 3 brothers, Chuck Toth, Dave Toth & Dale Toth and one sister Patti (Toth) Ryder, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son in-law Rian Smith.

The family will have a private gathering to celebrate her life.
