Joy graduated from Shippensburg High School with the class of 1968. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Shippensburg University.
She was employed by the Cumberland County Nursing Home (presently Claremont) as a social worker and then as Director of Social Services. Upon retirement from there, she became a social worker for Shippensburg Health Care Center until she fully retired.
Joy loved to get together with family and her loving and supportive friends. Joy was lovingly known, by her cousin Jolie's children, as "Aunt" Joy.
She was a "foodie" and loved eating out and critiquing the food with her family and circle of special friends. She had a soft spot for New York City and loved going there to eat and see Broadway shows. Being an avid Eagles football fan, she hardly ever missed watching a game. Joy was a big movie and TV buff. She enjoyed discussing politics with heartfelt enthusiasm.
Over the years she enjoyed trips to Cape May, New Jersey, Spain, Paris, Italy and many other places within the United States. She enjoyed dining every Friday with her circle of special friends. Joy had a great love for jazz music and was an avid supporter of the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz.
She was a very caring, loving, kind, generous, and genuine person.
Joy is survived by her cousins, Jolie (Frank) Rankin of Carlisle, Gary (Jennifer) Fox of Carlisle and Dr. Michael (Erin) Seavers of Mechanicsburg.
First cousins, once removed, Jana (Brandon) Ridgway and daughter, Hadley of Mechanicsburg, Neil Rankin of Carlisle, Tyler R. Fox and Mackenzie R. Fox Robinson.
She is also survived by Linda Sanderson, first cousin twice removed.
She was preceded in death by cousin, Dennis W. Leone, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
At Joy's request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
