Joshua Alan Straining, 19, of Shermansdale, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.  He was born on December 13, 1999 in Camp Hill and is a son of Angela E. Werndle of Shermansdale and Gerald Straining, Jr. of Newport.

Josh was a 2018 graduate of West Perry High School in Elliottsburg.  He was a member of Big Spring United Lutheran Church, Newville.  Josh enjoyed playing video games, watching the NBA, traveling to new places and the culinary arts.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers; Jerry Lee Straining of Millerstown and William "Bill" Straining at home, maternal grandmother, Phyllis Werndle of Duncannon and his paternal grandparents, Nancy and Gerald Straining, Sr. of Newport.

A viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m. in the Big Spring United Lutheran Church, 101 Crossroad School Rd., Newville, PA 17241 with Pastor Molly Haggerty officiating.  Private burial will be held in the Blain Cemetery, Perry County.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2080 Linglestown Rd., # 104, Harrisburg, PA 17110.   Visit www.EwingBrothers.com to send condolences.
