Obituary

Joseph Robert Roebuck, III, age 68, of Harrisburg, formerly of Carlisle, entered eternal life on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. He started his life on July 21, 1949 in Carlisle, a son of the late Joseph Robert Roebuck, II, and Sarajane Rice Roebuck.

Joseph was known to his family and many friends as "Bobby". He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1969, where he was a three-year letterman in both football and wrestling. After high-school, fulfilling his patriotic duty, he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, receiving an Honorable Discharge for service to his country. Additionally, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. He worked as an Orderly for the Carlisle Hospital and the Cumberland County Nursing Home prior to working and retiring from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot in 2015 with more than 30 years of service. Joe enjoyed boating, camping, fishing and watching war movies. As a child, he was Baptized and attended the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Carlisle. Joseph recommitted to Jesus in the last months of his life.

Joe will be dearly missed by family and friends, he is survived by two daughters, Shanta Grier of Mechanicsburg and Carrinne Grier of Hummelstown. "Pop Pop", as he was called by his grandchildren very dearly loved his five grandchildren, Chayquone, Rashon, Sereniti and Kaden Grier of Mechanicsburg and Angel Ojo of Hummelstown, his sisters, Cynthia Elaine Roebuck and Marsha Roberta Roebuck both of Baltimore MD, Monica Elaine Roebuck-Obi of Burtonsville, MD, and Randy Roebuck (Kathleen) of San Francisco, CA; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Burial with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, attended by family and friends. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made in Joe's name to www.pawoundedwarriors.org or to www.cancer.org.
