John Elbert Sweeney, 84, of Boiling Springs, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at
Neffsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster. He was born on September 16, 1941,
in Pittsburgh and was a son of the late John Sweeney and Rose (Antonika) Sweeney.

John was a graduate of New Brighton High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in
Industrial Marketing from Youngstown State University in Ohio. John served in the US Army
during the Vietnam War. He retired as a salesman for Airgas in Harrisburg. John enjoyed
watching Pittsburgh sports (Panthers, Penguins, Pirates, Steelers), hunting, golfing, and going
on trips with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Barbara (Abell) Sweeney, two sons, Blake
Sweeney of Boiling Springs and Robert (wife Brooke) Lawrence of Baltimore, two brothers,
James (wife Maddalena) Sweeney and Kenneth (wife Pamela) Sweeney, mother-in-law Beth
Riddell, two grandsons, Joseph Mayer and Lucas Chacon, three granddaughters, Shannon
(husband Paul) Haden, Alexa Lawrence and Brandy Lawrence, great-grandson Henry Haden,
three nephews, Brian (wife Ariana) Sweeney, Matthew Sweeney and Kirk (wife Kelli) Karsen,
two nieces, Jessica (husband Ryan) Noble and Kelly (husband Ray) Karsen Rodriguez, and last
but not least is his beloved grand-dog, Bogey. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter
Sarah Lawrence, one daughter Deborah Lawrence and one sister Dawna Karsen.

A viewing will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, followed by a funeral
service at 7:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with
Rev. Richard Reese officiating. The burial will be private.
