John F. Smith, 76, of Kalispell, Montana, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2011, at the Forest Park Health Center in Carlisle. He was born November 4, 1934, in Newport, and was the son of the late Russell S. and Ruth Pearl (Bealor) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alta (Jameson) Smith, a son, Robert Smith and a sister, Grace Zaring.
Before retiring to Kalispell, Montana, John was employed by Keen Transport in Carlisle. John served in the United States Army and was discharged with an Honorable Discharge and Good Conduct Medal in 1960. He was an avid hunter and a member of the North American Hunting Club and National Rifle Association.
John is survived by a son, Douglas Smith of Georgia, a daughter, Angela Smith of Florida, a brother, James Smith (and wife, Bonnie) of Etters, five sisters; Jean Cree (and husband, Victor) of Newport, Nancy Frederick (and husband, David) of Markelsville, Helen Smith (and husband, Charles Stake) of Gardners, Betty Morgan of Camp Hill and Mildred Meck (and husband, Ronald) of East Berlin and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date by his siblings. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the Newport Fire and Ambulance Service, Newport, Pa. 17074.

Helen, Jim, Bonnie, and family, was so sorry to read about John, know he is in a better place. Really have missed him around here helping me. I use the tractor all the time, doing the things he always did for me, mowing and plowing. Such a wonderful man is hard to find.Visits: 0
