Obituary

John W. Pentz, 82, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at UPMC Carlisle after a long illness.  He was born on October 4, 1941, in Waynesboro, PA and was the son of the late Daniel F. and Edna F. (Miner) Pentz.

He spent his early years in the Roadside area of Washington Township and graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1960.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and River of God Church in Enola, PA.  He was employed by West Penn Power until he retired in 2002.  He loved spending time with his family and being a Chaplain to the Cumberland County Sheriff Office.

He is survived by the love of his life, Joan C. (Knox) Pentz, whom he married on May, 23, 1964; two daughters, Jonnie S. Black and her husband Lanny and Michele R. Brunner and her husband Alan, both of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Jordan Black and his wife Megan, Chelsea Ellis and her husband Colton, Noah Brunner, all of Carlisle and Kelsey Snyder and her husband Christian of Harrisburg; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and C. J. Ellis, both of Carlisle; one brother, George W. Pentz of Waynesboro, and two sisters, Catherine Pentz of Waynesboro and Mary Coldsmith of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, June Wolff; four brothers, Merle "Nub" Pentz, Rev. Croft Pentz, Robert Pentz and Clint Pentz.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Assembly of God, 1412 Holly Pike, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Tim Halbfoerster officiating.
