Obituary

John C. Maurice, 93, of Carlisle, died on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. He was born on February 19, 1933, in Carlisle and was a son of the late John E. Maurice and Edith (Hippensteel) Maurice. John was married to the late Linda (Group) Maurice who passed away January 11, 2015.

John served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1953, he earned his G. E. D. from the former Carlisle Commercial College. He was employed by Quaker Oats Co. in Shiremanstown for more than 35 years. He worked the 3rd shift making the cereal “Life”. Following his shift at Quaker Oats, John drove school bus for Carlisle Area School District for many years. John enjoyed taking care of his many cats.

He is survived by five children and stepchildren, John (wife, Dolly) Maurice of Iron Station, NC, Robert Nelson of Shiremanstown, Jacquie (husband, Steve) Gensel of Gladstone, VA, Laurie Turner of Carlisle and Peggy (husband, John) Wilcox of Cincinnati, OH, one sister Peggy Olivera of Mt. Holly Springs, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son Donald “Doc” Maurice, one daughter-in-law Donna (Wolf) Maurice, two sets of twin brothers, Jay and Ray Maurice and Glenn Maurice and Lynn Maurice and two sisters, Genevieve Mouers and Janet Roberts.

A viewing will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Richard Reese officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in LeTort Cemetery, Carlisle. www.EwingBrothers.com.
