John retired from the former Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co., after 35 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Holly Springs Church of God.

He is survived by one daughter, Cathy J. "Shorty" Murtorff of Gardners, four sons; Richard E. Gibson, Harry L. Gibson and Steven A. "Hoot" Gibson, all of Carlisle and David L. Gibson and his wife, Donna of Mechanicsburg, one sister, Ruth Snyder of Carlisle, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be in Plainfield Church of God Cemetery. A viewing will be on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
