John Robert Bear, 94, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at ManorCare Health Services, Carlisle. He was born on January 10, 1924 in Cumberland County and was a son of the late Orie C. and Clara (Hoover) Bear. John was married for 63 years to the late Dorothy M. (Kelly) Bear who passed away January 8, 2011.

John served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was recalled to the Air Force during the Korean War. John worked for the former Carlisle Shoe Co., Nanicoke Chemical Co. and retired from the Pheasant Run Condominiums in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. John was a life member of Carlisle V.F.W. Post 477.

He is survived by one daughter, Camilla A. (husband, Jackie) Kaltenbaugh of Newville, three sons; Stephen R. Bear of Carlisle, Kenneth B. Bear of Mechanicsburg and Thomas R. Bear of Newville, two grandsons; Thomas R. Bear, Jr. and Chad A. Bear and one great-granddaughter, Payton J. Bear. He was predeceased by one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Bear, four brothers; Wilbur Swigert, Vernon Bear, Creden Bear and Dale Bear and one granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Kaltenbaugh.

A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Rev. Titus Clarke will officiate. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
