Joan (Painter) Ludwig Benze, 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at UPMC Carlisle.  She was born on November 4, 1934, in Lebanon, PA and was a daughter of the late Earl R. Painter and Ellamirl (Detweiler) Painter.

Joan is survived by two children, Christy Ludwig Keen of TN and Stephanie Ludwig Mellinger of Newville, one brother George Painter of Manheim, one sister Judy Painter Kern of Carlisle, seven granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Joan was preceded in death by her husband Robert Ludwig Sr. who passed in 1970, and her two sons, Barry Ludwig and Robert Ludwig, Jr.

Joan graduated from Carlisle High School with the Class of 1953.  She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Carlisle and where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.  Joan enjoyed volunteering at the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce, Project Share and was a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary in Carlisle.  Joan did secretarial and bookkeeping work most of her life.

In honoring Joan's wish, there will be no service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the Salvation Army, 20 East Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
