Obituary

Joan Louise Fenton Kegel, 89, of Naples, Florida and formerly of Carlisle, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 1, 2025. Born July 13, 1935, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Arthur H. Fenton & Irene M. Blosser Fenton. Joan was the wife of the late Frederick A. Kegel, who she married on May 29, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster, PA. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2007. Upon his death she established the Frederick A. Kegel Math Scholarship at the Carlisle High School in his honor and memory. Mr Kegel taught math at Susquehanna High School and retired as math teacher in the Carlisle School District.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas A. Kegel and a daughter, Christine L. Kegel. She is survived by her son, Joseph A. Kegel, daughter Deborah A. Kegel Kerr, granddaughter Monica I. Kegel Rocha (Juan C.), grandson Andres A. Kegel, great-grandchildren Celeste, Emma, Alexandra, Gabriela, Mateo, and great-great granddaughter Celine. Her family will forever cherish the loving memories of her kindness and time spent together baking cookies, laughing, learning, and many adventures.

Joan graduated from Carlisle High School class of 1953. She obtained a PA Practical Nurse License and worked in the hospital and several nursing homes while she attended Harrisburg Area Community College. She then attended York College of PA where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Police Science & Law Enforcement. Joan was a juvenile probation officer in Dauphin County for several years and then an adult and juvenile probation officer in Cumberland County. She then worked in the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office as Coordinator for the Non-DUI ARD program. She was a tipstaff for the Honorable Edward Guido, Judge of Cumberland County, and on-call tipstaff for Honorable Thomas Placey.

Joan was a member of the Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle, PA. She was a member and past president of Cumberland County Nami and life member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter in Carlisle. She really cared about her community and to help those in need.

There will be no viewing. Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 87 Marsh Drive, Carlisle. Rev. Don Bender will be the officiant. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Patrick Catholic Church and/or Saint Jude Hospital for Children.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
