Jo Ann Louise (Ream) Layne of Mechanicsburg went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2024.  She was born on July 3, 1935, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Wallace Raymond Ream, Sr. and Lois (Knoche) Ream, and was the oldest of six children.  She was the widow of Wayne Layne, who passed away on January 11, 1977.

Jo Ann graduated from Carlisle High School in 1953 and worked for the Federal Government for 29 years in FMSO.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Bessie Knoche, daughter, Shelby Lee Wilkins, brother Duane Wallace Ream, and a brother, LCPL Gary Lee Ream, USMC, who was Killed in Action in Danang, South Viet Nam on 3 November 1966.  Her life was totally dedicated to keeping Gary's name and memory alive, to not let this country or anyone ever forget that he gave his life for his country and that his life was not given in vain or for nothing and that he died a HERO.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life, her two daughters, Doreen Ann Bradley (Rodney) of New York and Barbara Jo Genna of Mechanicsburg; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brothers, Wallace Raymond Ream Jr. (Butch or Wally to some) of New Cumberland and Alan John Ream and wife Virginia (Gini) of Santee, CA, and sister Jo Etta Anita Sollenberger (Jody) of Carlisle and many nieces and nephews.  She was Past President and Treasurer of World War I Memorial Post American Legion #109 Auxiliary, Mechanicsburg; Mechanicsburg VFW Auxiliary Post 6704; and an Associate member of the Gold Star Mothers Association.

A graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, in the Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PA Wounded Warriors, C/O New Cumberland V.F.W. Post 7415, 109 Third Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
