Jeanette Mae Smith, 98, formerly of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive in York.  She was born on April 20, 1925, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Charles Shughart and Olive (Shope) Shughart.  Jeanette was the widow of Gordon E. Smith who passed away in 2005.

Jeanette was a 1944 graduate of Carlisle High School and had worked as a seamstress most of her life.  She worked with her husband's business "Smitty's Window Décor in Carlisle for many years.  She was a member of the Mt. Holly Church of God.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda (husband Ronald) Ludt of Carlisle and Darla Varner of Dover, PA, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by one daughter Leah Jane Smith, one brother Maynard Shughart, one sister Esther Karper and one son-in-law Tony Varner.

A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in the Mt. Holly Church of God, 602 McLand Dr, Mt Holly Springs, PA 17065 with Pastor Richard Reese officiating.  Burial will be private at Waggoner's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carlisle.  A time of fellowship will follow the funeral service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to her church.  www.EwingBrothers.com.
