Jeanette E. Jones, 83, of Carlisle, passed to eternal life on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was born on April 14, 1931, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Oren D. and Ethel (Myers) Lay and was the widow of R. Wayne Jones, who died on May 17, 2010.

Jeanette was a loving homemaker and helped her husband manage the family dairy farm in North Dickinson Twp. for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of the Newville Assembly of God Church. Jeanette along with her family represented her church by singing gospel songs on Sunday afternoons for WIOO and the former WHYL radio stations in Carlisle for 10 years. She enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking, canning and gardening.

She is survived by one daughter, Vonnie J. (Dennis) Schmohl of Carlisle, four sons; Wayne E. (Tambra) Jones of Carlisle, William A. (Peggy) Jones of Waynesboro, David L. (Laura) Jones of Landisburg and Daniel W. (Diane) Jones of Pittsburgh, one brother, Leo Lay of Shippensburg, 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jeanette was preceded in death by a son, Walter L. Jones, who died Dec. 22, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Newville Assembly of God Church, 403 Oak Flat Rd., Newville, with Rev. Jeffrey W. Kettering officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be on Thursday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the church. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may made to her church.
