Jean L. Sherk, 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Swaim Health Center, Newville. She was born on April 6, 1929 in Annville, a daughter of the late Paul L. and Ruth (Gollam) Schmuck.

Jean graduated from Annville High School with the class of 1946. She retired from the Carlisle Bon-Ton Store after 16 years of service.

She is survived by her husband/companion of nearly 60 years, Richard S. Sherk of Newville, two daughters; Constance J. Barnes of Chambersburg and Chrystal L. (husband, J. Edward) Short of Newville, one sister, Joanne Hansen of Cornwall, three grandchildren; Abigail (Benjamin) Leese, Meghan Short and Andrew (Jacqueline) Short, one great-grandson, Timothy Leese and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by three brothers; Sidney, Christian and Paul Schmuck, five sisters; Rosalie Rittle, Madeline Hudson, Pauline Lasek, Kathleen Arnold and Rudy Schmuck.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Westminster Memorial Gardens, 1159 Newville Rd, Carlisle followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the Thrush Chapel at the Swaim Health Center, 210 Big Spring Rd., Newville, with Pastor Dana Blouch-Hanson officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Life Department at Green Ridge Village, 210 Big Spring, Rd, Newville, PA 17241. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements.
