Janice C. Yorlets, 81, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Hershey Medical Center. She was born on May 13, 1936 in Carlisle, and was a daughter of the late Lester and Madeline (Shughart) Mellott.
Janice was a 1955 graduate of Boiling Springs High School. She and her husband farmed for many years in Dickinson Twp. Janice was a member of Waggoners United Methodist Church, Carlisle, was a past president of Ladies Loyalty Class, and help plan and organize the Corn Soup Festivals and the annual Gospel Fest held by the church. Janice was a past president of the Cumberland County Farm Women Society, a member of Group 15 Farm Women Society, and a former state director of the Society of Farm Women. As a young girl, Janice and her mother would bake bread and sticky buns to be sold at the former Farmers Market on the Square in Carlisle. She passionately loved planting and caring for the flowers at her family home and antiquing. The family get-togethers at Christmas and Easter were very special to her. She was an excellent cook and would help her husband with anything to maintain the family farms.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Paul H. Yorlets, one son, Larry J. (wife, Debra) Yorlets of Carlisle, two daughters; Leah J. Hornung of Carlisle and Lucinda J. Sadrian of Watchung, NJ, one brother, John Mellott of Salem, OR, two sisters; Elva Handshew of Plainfield and Mary Zelger of Carlisle, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Jay, Ronnie and Clarence Mellot.
A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle, with Rev. Tom Willard officiating. Burial will be private.
