Janice Elizabeth Marpoe, 88, of Newville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Green Ridge Village, Newville. She was born on June 2, 1936, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late Calvin A. Barrick, Sr. and Vera E. (Hummel) Barrick. She was married for 44 years to Gilson E. Marpoe, Sr., who passed away on May 3, 2000. Janice was a longtime resident of Cumminstown and Newville.
Janice graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954. She was a devoted homemaker and worked many years at the Carlisle Hospital where she was a ward clerk. She was a member of the Big Spring Heights Church of God in Newville. Janice was an avid reader and especially loved reading the Bible and all things related to religion. She will be remembered for her pig stomach, refrigerator cake, red velvet cake and pumpkin pie.
She is survived by six children, Luann E. (Jeff) Cohick, Gilson E. (Roxann) Marpoe, Jr., Timothy E. (Kay) Marpoe, Suellen E. (Tom) Neidigh, Meribeth E. Brown and Kevin E. Marpoe, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Rusty Brown, and four brothers, Calvin Barrick, Jr., Harvey Barrick, Carl Barrick and Wayne LeVan Barrick.
A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Christopher Faylor officiating. The burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Visit www.EwingBrothers.com to send condolences.
