Janet L.
Priest
December 15, 1935 – June 6, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Janet L. Priest (Dunbar), 90 of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 15, 1935, in Carlisle and was the daughter of the late Wilmer Dunbar and Helen (Martin) Dunbar-Shearer.
Janet graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954. She worked as a Practical Nurse at Carlisle Hospital until she married Harry D. Priest in 1956; at which time she became a Navy wife and homemaker. She accompanied Harry to base locations stationed in the United States as he went seabound.
Janet dedicated her life to raising her two daughters and meeting the responsibilities of being a Navy wife. She loved to read, enjoyed gardening (“putzing around” in the yard as she’d say) and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army, the Carlisle Food Bank and attending local craft fairs and events.
Once her daughters were grown, her grandchildren became the center of her world. She loved them all unconditionally and was so proud of their achievements. Her grandchildren adored her and commented that she was a great role model and the foundation of our family, that she was the best grandma ever, and always made you feel loved.
She was a beautiful person, kind, gentle & lived her life faithfully. She was long standing member of Grace United Methodist Church and Middlesex United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kaye Dunbar and her devoted husband (Harry) of 69 years. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Al) Stackhouse of Boiling Springs and Susan Lafrentz of Carlisle. Her three grandchildren; Austin (Vanessa) Weibley, Justin (Megan) Weibley, Tyler Lafrentz and one great-grandson, Joseph Weibley.
Services will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family, where she will be laid to rest with Harry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlesex United Methodist Church. www.EwingBrothers.com.
