Janet V. Mentzer, 95, formerly of Newville, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born April 2, 1920 in Newburg, and was a daughter of the late Adolphus G. and Lillie (Graham) Morrison. She was the widow of John B. Mentzer, who died in 1968.

She was a loving homemaker and had also did private housekeeping and childcare in the Newville area. Janet was the oldest living member of the Green Spring First Church of God, Newville and was a member of the former Oswald-Taylor Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Newville.

She is survived by one son, Gary L. (wife, Mary) Mentzer of Newville, one daughter, Debbie K. (husband, Mike) Noel of Newville and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by three sons; John, Franklin and Ernest Mentzer, one daughter, Bertha Mentzer, four brothers; Russell, Ralph, Roy and Mervin Morrison, two sisters; Emma Martin and Elizabeth Varner and two grandsons; Danny and Clinton Mentzer.

A viewing will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2016 followed by the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. in the Green Spring First Church of God, 1140 Green Spring Rd., Newville, with Rev. Phillip Steele officiating. Burial will be private at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
