Janet S. Houston, 98, of Newville, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Silver Spring Personal Care Home in Mechanicsburg. She was born on October 22, 1926, and was a daughter of the late Roy Houston and Katherine (Sheaffer) Houston.

Janet graduated from Carlisle High School with the class of 1944. She spent over 40 years working for the Cumberland County Commissioners office, and 47 with Cumberland County. Janet was a member of Dickinson Presbyterian Church, where she was treasurer for many years. She loved working in her garden, enjoying her fountains, sitting on her front porch and helping take care of the church lawn and gardens. Janet was an amazing seamstress and her beautiful quilts, cross stitch pictures and crafts are works of art.

She is survived by her niece Barbara Bistline of Carlisle, two great nieces, Angela Bistline of Boiling Springs and Amy (her husband Sean) Campbell of Concord, NH, a great great nephew Noah (his wife Hannah) Ruby-Bistline of Arlington, VA., and a great great niece Lily (her fiancé Evan) Bistline of Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her sister Betty Rice and her nephew in-law Frank Bistline.

A viewing will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the Dickinson Presbyterian Church, 12 Church Rd., Carlisle, with Pastor Neal McCulloch officiating. The burial will take place at Centerville Memorial Park directly after the service. There will be a time of fellowship at the church following the burial. Memorial contributions in honor of Janet may be made to her church.
