Obituary

Janet L. Bell, age 70, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Manor Care Health Services, Carlisle.  She was born on April 18, 1950 in Carlisle.  She was the daughter of the late James R. Washington Sr. and Dora M. (Coleman) Washington and the widow of George T. Bell who died April 13, 2014.

Janet was a graduate of Carlisle High School class of 1968.  She worked for Sprint Telephone Company for 29 years, Manor Care Health Services for 15 years, and Ahold Financial; Janet never fully retired from any of her jobs.  She was a very faithful member of her Church, West Street AME Zion of Carlisle, where she served as Secretary, Treasure, Deaconess, Choir member, and on the Stewart Board. She was a member of The Y's Men and Women's Club of Carlisle, Cumberland County Historical Society, Cumberland Valley Quilters Guild, and National Archives and Records Administration.

She was a devoted and loving mother to her two children, Steven J. Washington and Georgette E. Bell both of Carlisle, survived by sister in law Roxanne Washington of Carlisle, aunts: Shelby Jackson, Catherine Roland, Sheila Wilkinson of Harrisburg and Marilyn Brown of Carlisle, cousin, Debbie Collins, close friends; Thelma Muldrow, Estella Williams, Ruth Hodge and Mildred Smith along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.  Janet was known to be a dear and Loving Friend to many. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are her brother James R. Washington Jr. and sister Jeanne Washington.
