IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane D.
Harker
December 10, 1943 – April 22, 2025
Jane D. Harker, 81, of Carlisle, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle. She was born on December 10, 1943, in Bayonne, New Jersey. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Mitza) Simmons and the widow of Edward W. Harker, who passed away on January 10, 2001.
Jane was a graduate of Bayonne High School in NJ, where she met her husband. She and Ed moved from New Jersey to Carlisle while he attended law school at Dickinson. Jane lived a full life, spreading joy wherever she went. She held jobs at Masland's and Farmer's Credit before taking a position as a secretary in the Office of Student Services at Dickinson College. She proudly worked there until she retired, making significantly meaningful and life-long friends among both staff and students at the college. She will be most fondly remembered there.
Jane is survived by her son Joseph G. (and his wife Brooklyn) of Mechanicsburg, and was of course Joe's number one fan and chauffeur through a decade of sporting events, piano lessons, and band concerts, enjoying each to the full. She was thrilled to be a grandmother to Trevor Harker, soaked up every possible moment with him, and got to watch him grow into a fine young man. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Simmons, who was perhaps the most significant source of Jane's joy and zest for life.
She enjoyed many, many trips to New Jersey to spend time with her sister Judy DeHay and nephew Dean Blanco, of Bordentown, NJ. Jane leaves them with wonderful memories of adventures in New York City, London, Italy, and all along the Jersey shore. Jane and Ed also leave behind lovely memories for her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ruth Edmondson, Gail Harker, Jim Harker and John Harker. Together with their father Edward W. Harker Jr., and all of Jane's nieces and nephews, the Harkers filled Jane's life with love and care and stories that will survive for years to come.
Jane attended the former Allison United Methodist Church, and most recently Daybreak Church in Mechanicsburg. Her friends there rejoice in her becoming Perfect.
