Obituary

James E. Wagner, 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at UPMC

Carlisle. He was born in Karns City, Butler County on February 24, 1937, to the late Harry

Wagner and Bertha (McElravy) Wagner. He was married to his loving wife, Joan I. (Rottman)

Wagner, for 66 years.

Once he was out of school James served in the U.S. Army. After the Army he spent many years

working for the phone company, first for United Telephone and then retiring from Sprint. James

enjoyed restoring antique cars. He was the past Publication editor for the Crosley Car Club and

the Gettysburg Regional Car Club. James also loved meeting his friends every morning at

McDonald's to talk and have coffee.

In addition to his lovely wife Joan, James is survived by a daughter Susan (her husband Dave)

Wickard, a son Mark (his wife Jodi) Wagner, seven granddaughters, Amber (her husband

William) Depew, Aleah Wickard, Hannah Wickard, Haileigh Wickard, Brittany (her husband

Heath) Ausherman, Brooklyn (her husband Brady) Weaver, and Erin Wagner (her companion

Brent McCracken), one grandson Sage (his wife Ali) Wagner, two great grandsons, Asher

Depew and Landon Depew, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one

son James E. Wagner Jr., five sisters, and one brother.

A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Paul United Methodist Church 750 Norland Avenue

Chambersburg, Pa. 172011 on Tuesday November 18, 2025, visitation at 10:00 am and

memorial to follow at 11:00 am.

There will be a private burial for the family at Fort Indiantown Gap at a later date.
