James L. Shearer, 84, formerly of Newville, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010, in the Forest Park Health Center in Carlisle. He was born on Saturday, September 18, 1926, in Marysville, and was a son of the late Joseph W. and Effie (Gambler) Shearer.

James retired from Wilcox Forging in Mechanicsburg. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club, Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299 and a life member of the Washington Fire Co., Mechanicsburg. Jim loved his pets and throwing horseshoes.

He is survived by two sisters; Mary Paulas of Shermansdale and Dorothy Richie of Elizabethtown and his longtime care givers, Harold and Ruth Brenizer of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by sisters; Loretta Paulas, Catherine Brenizer, Florence Miller, Helen Brownawell, Jeanette Kimmel, Ruth Barrick, Betty Barrick and Darlene Snyder and brothers; Charles, Clarence and Joseph Shearer, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Clark C. Dunkle officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.
