James C. Howell, 89, of Carlisle, died on Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Chapel Pointe at Carlisle. He was born on November 1, 1926 in Wilmington, NC, a son of the late Fulton and Virginia (Tally) Howell. Jim was married for 55 years to the late Donna Mae (Snyder) Howell, who died March 22, 2006.
Jim was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He owned and operated the former "K Street Motors" in Carlisle for many years. He was a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees for the former Grace United Methodist Church. Jim served the Carlisle community in many ways including; Mayor of Carlisle during the early 1970's and as a former member of Borough Council and the Water and Sewer Authority. He was a member and 32nd degree mason with St. John's Masonic Lodge F&AM 260, the Harrisburg Consistory and the Zembo Shriners. Jimwas also a member of Union Fire Co., Carlisle and a board member of the Carlisle Salvation Army.
He is survived by three sons; James P. (Gwen) Howell of Ponce Inlet, FL, Mark E. (Katrina) Howell of Goose Creek, SC and Richard K. (Mary Beth) Howell of Carlisle, two brothers; Robert E. Howell of Mt. Holly Springs and Vincent Howell of Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren; Paul (Tabitha) Howell, Jenny (Max) Acuna, Rebecca (Shaun) Foote, Sharon (fiancé, Jason) Howell, Julie (Todd) Friscia and Richard (Marta) Howell and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Carlisle United Methodist Church, 45 S. West St., Carlisle with Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a fellowship meal at the Carlisle Country Club. Burial will be private. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 309, Carlisle, PA 17013. www.Since1853.com.
