IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edward
Eberts
July 12, 1960 – May 27, 2025
James Edward Eberts, Husband, Father, Pappy Da, went to be with the Lord on May 27th 2025 after more than a year and a half heroic battle with cancer at 64 years of age. Jim approached his cancer diagnosis like he did most things in life, with a deep-rooted faith in the Lord and a "get it done" attitude. He was not one to shy away from hard work, often starting his days at 4 am and not coming in from outside until dark. While being a hard worker encapsulated who Jim was at his core, he also had many passions and hobbies over the years. As a kid, he had a love for music and played the guitar and the drums in concert and marching band, where he met the love of his life, Vickie Nealy, who he fondly referred to as Vic. Though it may not always have been obvious, she hung his moon and stars and he expressed his love for her by picking her bouquets of flowers he grew in the flower beds, dumping loads of fruits and veggies he grew in his garden on her countertops to be washed, canned, baked (or cursed), and faithfully giving her cards for every occasion. In his younger days, when he wasn't working as a welder, he could often be found on a race track or tending to his yard and animals. Over the years gardening became more than just a hobby, but a labor of love. If you are reading this, you may have been the recipient of one of his gigantic zucchini, boxes of his apples, onions, peaches, tomatoes, and other vegetables or a few dozen of the thousands of pumpkins and gourds he grew every fall. He is survived by his five grandchildren who will fondly remember golf cart rides and picking pumpkins with Pappy Da: Micah James (Pappy's Namesake), Jailyn (Pappy's Fred), Isla (Pappy's Squirt), Jett Christian (Pappy's Leroy), Gianna (Pappy's Little Squirt) and his kids who he loved with all that he had, Jade (Kevin) Gray and Jared (Jennifer) Eberts. He was proceeded in death by his parents (Edward and Nancy Eberts), his in-laws (Oscar and Sarah Nealy) and is survived by his wife, kids, grandchildren, sister (Lelani; Lon), stepmother (Tressie), cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was an active member of Newville Church of the Brethren since he married Vickie in 1979. At the church, he proudly served as a deacon and on many committees over the years. He assisted with church maintenance, even planting flowers in the church flowerbeds on random Saturday afternoons without having to be asked and not wanting anyone to notice. Jim had a true servant's heart and gave generously with his time and talents. He was an expert in his trade of welding and his phone rang off the hook with friends and welding buddies calling to get his opinion on one thing or another. They may have called for advice, but probably got a bonus animated story or two and been entertained by his quick and witty sense of humor.
Jim spent many of his days in the mountains hunting and passed this love of nature on to his son. In the fall of 2024, Jim's last hunting season, Jared took him out and together they shot, what turned out to be the biggest buck Jim ever shot. The smile on his face said it all. While we will certainly remember his sense of humor, his generous spirit, the steel trap he had for a mind, it is his unwavering faith in the Lord that will carry us through.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Newville Church of the Brethren, 16 Carlisle Rd., Newville, PA 17241 at 12:00 noon. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Pastor John F. Hess will be officiating. A fellowship meal will follow the service. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Newville Church of the Brethren. www.EwingBrothers.com.
