James E. Foster, 71, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his home. He was born on June 16, 1946 on the Foster Farm to the late Ralph and Bertha (Miller) Foster of Carlisle and has been married to Lillie (Wetzel) Foster close to 50 years.
His early Big Spring days started by walking a mile to Locust Point, his one room school, where he learned The Village Blacksmith poem which he could still recite.
He worked at Maslands, Carlisle Tire and Rubber, M&S Construction (who built Western Village with a jail, Saloon and gunfights). Jimmy also worked 32 years for Agway Energy driving transport from terminal to terminal.
He enjoyed camping, driving his 46 Willys in the mountain , Four-Wheeling at Tower City, snowmobiling in New York and Yellowstone, traveling all over the U.S., attending Rendezvous and going to Benezett to see the Elk. He looked forward to buck season and packing his canvas sack full of snacks and coffee for the day.
He liked Kevin Wickard's public sales and any flea market around, especially the Dairyland flea market near Bellville, always finding a treasure to bring home. He also liked to sit at Foster's Garage and talk to anyone who came through the door. He liked the country fairs and organized several Foster Reunions. James also liked watching his garden grow, cooking and canning anything that was ripe.
He attended Gods Missionary Church in Bloserville from time to time, since he was a young boy.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his daughter, Carol and husband Jason Lindsay of York, S. Carolina, his son Daniel and wife Missy Foster of Carlisle and step-grandchildren; Zack, Jen, little Zane Orner and Brock Bull, all of Hays Grove, Newville. Jimmy also has a sister, Shirley Deihl of Carlisle whom he phoned every day. There are many nieces, nephews, an ocean of lifetime friends who called and visited thoughtfully and his favorite dog Flash.
James is predeceased by two brothers; Ralph Jr., baby Stephen, his beloved sister, Dorothy who died in 2014 and little Charlotte who died in 1983.
We want to thank Jimmy's many friends, here at home and those out of state who called and talked about the good old days that made Jimmy's days go by faster. Also thanks for all the food, cards, prayers and many visits. All of these kept Jimmy's spirits up and going. A special thanks to Tabitha- Tiffany and Dalton for their help this past year.
